General Membership Drive and Executive Council 2014

As the 2014 Fall Session kicked off with a fervor hardly seen before, ACM SEECS did not wait too long recruiting the best of the best.

The general membership drive began on September 10^th, 2014. The major days for this drive were 15^th to 17^th of September.

Mostly when registering, people were wondering what the advantage of a general membership would be since only when you’re in the executive council do you actually get to do stuff and are in on the actual team. Well, for those with this question still revolving around their heads: General Members get all sorts of special discounts and offers on events hosted or in collaboration with the ACM which in the long scheme of things really do matter. What the executives do, well, that is for them to know.

Though the number of general members at this point is not accounted for as the HR department is still working on the huge amount of information (it is surely a lot to process) we have collected; it is known that approximately 200 people applied for council posts i.e. to be in ACM as an executive member. Whereas the available posts are in fact 64, hence all applicants were interviewed by the relevant board’s chairs and vice chairs from the previous year’s council and in many cases by President and Vice President ACM. Interviews were held on September 17^th, 18^th and also 22^nd. Also 49 people applied for the posts of Chairs and Vice Chairs.

The interviews were highly objective and thus effective. The best thing about them was the justness of the procedure. The council was finalized Tuesday night and emails were sent out. The first meeting of the council 2014-2015 was held on Wednesday, September 24^th, 2014.

The following is a listing of the council for 2014-15 which also shows the departments that ACM is divided into. Also it should be mentioned here that ACM SEECS has two other wings namely ACM-W and ASWAN which though use the same council are quite independent in their endeavors.

It is also intentioned that by this time next year ACM-W be its own body within NUST that is have its own council separate from the ACM.

ACM WOW EVENT

Welcoming EVERYONE to the WORLD of NERDs,

Where

 A for Awesome,

C for Creative,

M for Minds

 And

"NERD IS THE NEW COOL"

So those awesome, creative Minds got together and made memories on 10^th of September 2014 with ACM.

“AAH! WHAAT!! .. dats it ? Is this what ACM is all about” ? isn’t it kinda boring or something … I would prefer not to register “ ( after I failed to convince a fellow freshmen ) … and i just said “ Please just visit SEECS lobby around 1-2 .. That would help “

It was definitely an AMAZING start, introducing ourselves as ACMers, meeting Freshies, enjoying Delishhhh Food & On Spot Baking free from Capital Delights, playing a variety of tricky Games … too bad we only had 1 hour for this but oh well!!  WE HAD FUNNN :D didn’t we ??? , and YESSSS you are the lucky one around if you got a Free Google Goodie :P we were very delighted to see so many people coming over to see us, their excitement was overwhelmed the way they participated in all the fun activities . Making big circles round every table as if Birthday Cake was being cut :P , willing to do almost everything to WIN the challenge …

I must say that truly

“YOU PEOPLE MADE OUR DAY” ^_^

The activities we covered were:

Blindfold drawing … a person was given a title and 3-4 min to think about it. After that he was supposed to sketch that object or anything related to it with blindfold on their eyes…one thing I got to know that we have got some amazing ARTISTS in SEECS :P

Shave the balloon … shaving cream was applied on the surfaces of the inflated balloons. The player had to use a razor to scrape off all of the shaving cream from the balloon.

Eat the biscuit

A biscuit was placed on the forehead of participant. It had to be eaten without touching it … You will come across some really funny pictures while students were struggling to eat the biscuit :P

Tech quiz & ACM puzzle

 It was a rapid fire technology related quiz. If a person scored at least 8/10 he WON the game and if he guessed 3 WRONG, definitely he losses the game … was happy to see such a big crowd around the table, waiting for their turns, few challenging and introducing themselves as “Masters of Technology” ... I really don’t know about that but you are surely the “Masters Of Entertainment” (hats off to your SPIRITS ^_^)

We had an ACM puzzle which was supposed to be completed in 2-3 min time. Ya ya I know :P this was kinda hard with such a little time to complete so nobody won the game (better luck next time)

Photo booth:

Firs thing I got attracted to were the blue & white Balloonsssss !!! We had a PhotoBooth (that was the most interesting corner of the lobby without a doubt ) … am sure everyone had a nice DSLR DP (except me) which they uploaded as soon as the photobooth was released :p It`s all thanks to your SENIOR “Maham Shahid” (Y) … eye masks , nerdy mustache n everything gave such a COOL touch.

Nail art:

I would have gone for a nail paint too (blue n white) just like the BALLOONS ^_^ … The one activity only for GIRLS :P I think every GIRL must have stop by when she saw the poster of “NAIL PAINTS” ;) there we had students expert in nail painting of all kinds.

WELL! NERD-ness is something which we SEECS-ians don’t like to have around all the time so we make sure some windows are opened for the cool air to blend in :P Don’t feel yourself left out because this was the event specially organized for you people & making a NEW TREND “nerd is the new cool”

ACM MOVIE NIGHT

Wait the activities aren’t over yet :p It’s the time of ACM Movie Night :D
So there was a list of movies presented to the SEECS administration including X-MEN, Godzilla, The Social Network etc. but the movie that got approval was none other than “E=mc², Einstein’s Big idea”, wait seriously -_- seems so nerdy :p huh?
Yeah but SEECS and its rules, no one can mess with them :D
The SEECS Seminar Hall was full with awesome freshies sharp at 5 p.m. People were excited, I must say and there the movie starts. Literally a nerdy movie but wait it suited the motto “Nerd is the new cool” :p
It was an enigma that how freshies were so much interested in that movie ? anyways to be honest, the movie was interesting to some extent :p
With the end of the movie, the awesome day organized by awesome ACM came to an end. Wait…. I think I am missing something :p Oh yeah the day ended with our president Adil Jalil stepping over the laptop of our vice president Muhammad Waseem Khan :D and the LCD showed awesome colors, I couldn’t mention :D

Oh yea! About that FELLOW FRESHMAN I mentioned earlier … umm WELL :P !! he actually did come to me to REGISTER :P

GLAD TO HAVE ALL OF YOU, Come And Lets make future with ACM ^_^
